Annie Hawkins

I have been playing the beautiful game for almost 30 years now! It is one of the things in my life I am most grateful for. The experiences I've had, the lessons I've learned, and the challenges I've faced in those 30 years have been so influential in becoming who I am today, but nothing has shaped me quite like the people I've met and the mentors that I have had throughout my career. Each teammate, coach, and mentor has added to each of my experiences, lessons, and challenges. It's one of the most amazing parts about playing soccer.

Although I've spent most of my career in Salt Lake City, Utah, soccer has taken me to so many places in the world. I grew up playing club soccer and ODP in Salt Lake City, Utah. After high school, I played Division I soccer at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. I was a 4-year starter and hold 4 individual season records and 4 career individual records there including goals scored and career points. I was also the second player in Gonzaga history to earn First Team All Conference Honors. My junior year I led the Conference in Goals Scored and was second in points. I also earned NSCAA All Region Third team honors my junior year. Most importantly, our team went from being last in the West Coast Conference (which was the best conference at the time) my freshman year to 3rd place my senior year.

After college, I played professionally in Sweden's top league, the Damallsvenskan. The WUSA had folded so a lot of the top players that were going to be drafted in that league went to Sweden. I got to play against players like Kristine Lilly, Marta, Hope Solo and coaches like Pia Sundhage. I also played on the USASA National Team and was part of the USWNT pool for 3 years. After playing in Sweden, I returned to Salt Lake City to play for Real Salt Lake Women, a semi-professional team and the Real Salt Lake MLS team's official Women's team. I've been the captain of that team for 7 years.

Soccer has given me so many opportunities, put so many incredible people in my life, taught me so much about myself, and taken me to so many places in the world that I may never have gone. It is out of the gratitude for what I've been given that I choose to give my all in sport, life, relationships, and mentorship. One of my favorite things to do is to give back to the game that has given me so much. It is my goal (and hope) to share the life lessons I've learned in soccer with young players and help them find the confidence and belief in themselves so they too can choose a purpose that is anchored in putting their best influence forward – in life, spirit, and sport.
