Sam Harder

I have been lucky enough to play this wonderful game for 17 years now.  Over those 17 years I have experienced the extreme highs, the devastating lows, and every experience in between that soccer can produce. If it wasn’t for the mentorship that I have received throughout my career I do not think I would be the person or player I am today. I don’t think I would have been able to come out of the lows stronger than I went in. I don’t think I would have walked away from the highs with a level head. And I don’t think I would be able to pursue a professional career like I am today if it weren’t for the help and advice of the people around me.

I have lived near Denver, Colorado my entire life but thanks to soccer I have gotten to travel the world. I grew up playing club soccer for Colorado Rush, where I captained my team and became a three-time State Champion, a Region IV Champion, and a National Runner-Up. After my club career ended I was fortunate enough to stay close to home and play Division I soccer at the University of Denver, where, again, I was named team captain, was a 4-year starter, and hold the school record for minutes played in a career. In my 4 years at DU, I was named a First Team All-Conference selection all four years, while competing in three different conferences. I was a two-time NSCAA All Region Second team honoree and was named Conference Defensive Player of the Year my junior and senior seasons. More importantly, my team won two regular season conference titles, one conference tournament championship, and in 2012 made school history with an NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearance. In addition to playing college soccer, I also played semi-professionally in the W-League for Colorado Rush, where I had the honor of playing with and against many former and current USWNT players such as Alex Morgan, Sydney Leroux, Lindsey Horan, Hope Solo, and Megan Rapinoe.

At the end of my senior season, in 2015, I unfortunately went undrafted but was flown into preseason camp with the Houston Dash of the NWSL. After my time with the Dash I moved to Buffalo, NY and was a reserve for the Western New York Flash of the NWSL. This season I again joined the Houston Dash for training camp but am now pursuing a professional contract with a club overseas.

There aren’t enough words for me to express my gratitude for everything this game has taught me, the places it’s taken me, and the people it’s allowed me to meet. Though I value every experience I’ve had thus far, I think I value the people I’ve met most. Without the people that have gone on this journey with me and mentored me along the way, I wouldn’t be where I am. It is my goal to play that role in the lives of you younger players and allow you to learn from my experiences, as well as your own. We always say, “If only I knew then what I know now…” Well, now you can. This is my opportunity to instill in you the lessons I’ve learned and allow you to learn from my successes and my failures. I can’t wait to get started!
