Steve Zakuani is a former professional soccer player, inspirational speaker, and author. Born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and raised in a low income area of London, Steve began his soccer career playing for the Arsenal youth at 9 years old. He was selected first overall by the Seattle Sounders in the 2009 Major League Soccer SuperDraft, and was the team’s leading scorer in the 2010 season. In 2011, he suffered a devastating injury during a game, and although he made a remarkable recovery to play again, a series of additional injuries led Steve to announce his retirement from soccer in October 2014.
Steve is the founder and president of Kingdom Hope a non-profit that offers leadership training, scholarships and educational programs focused on helping under-served youth become leaders in their communities!
n 2015, Steve authored and self-published his first book, “500 Days,” where he chronicles his physical and mental fight to return to playing soccer after a life changing injury.
